Ala 15 (15th Wing) was created on 16 December 1985. The Wing's Tiger however dates back to September 1956, with the formation of Ala de Caza N°2 (2nd Fighter Wing), flying the North American F86-F "Sabrejet". |
| In July 1986 the first four EF-18 Hornets arrived with a direct flight from the USA. On 14 January 1989 the Ala was declared operational. | |||
Since 1995 the Ala consists of Escuadrones de Cazas 151 and 152 (Fighter Squadrons) and Escuadrón de Conversión Operativa 153 (Operational Conversion Squadron). Ala 15 flies the modified EF-18A/B variants of the F/A-18 Hornet. This variant of the Hornet is a modified version of the F/A-18 that was specifically delivered for the Spanish Air Force. These Hornets can be recognized by the absence of the launch bracket on the nose landing gear. |
| Ala 15’s Hornets perform a wide variety of tasks, including Air To Air, Air To Ground and SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) missions. | |||
